Randy Converse
Randy is a Special Education Assistant in the Madison
Metropolitan School District in addition to tutoring at MRLC since 1999.
He says he loves “working with intellectually stimulating
colleagues.” Randy and his wife have two daughters. His
hobbies include T’ai Chi, eating with concern for nutrition and biking.
Randy has a passion for teaching reading. Randy is certified in both
the Basic and Advanced Orton-Gillingham. He has been trained in
Project Read's Reading Comprehension Method. He has also used the Wilson
Reading System extensively over the past 8 years.
“Reading is a basic survival skill. Helping
students achieve competence in this skill is important to me.”
Mary Usher
Mary has been with the MRLC for the past two years.
Mary’s family includes her husband, their son and daughter as well as their
dog, Maddie. Mary enjoys volunteering at Hospice Care, golfing, traveling
and cheering on the UW Badger football and basketball teams. Mary
received her B.S. in Community Health Education from UW LaCrosse. She has
extensive experience in tutoring skills; she has been tutoring for 20 years.
She is certified in Basic and Advanced Orton-Gillingham. She is also
trained in Early Intervention Reading, Accelerated Reader, and Keys to
Understanding Dyslexia, Project Read- “Written Expressions” and Reading, as
well as Direct Instruction in reading, spelling, decoding and language
learning.
“I love tutoring because of the interaction with students
and families. I really enjoy helping a student become a life long
learner.”
Kate Dobson
Kate received her undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies
from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. She earned her Master’s
degree in Communication Disorders from San Francisco State University. Kate is
trained in Lindamood-Bell and she has specialized training in speech and
language pathology, language processing, articulation, accent reduction. With
over ten years of teaching experience, she is a great addition to the MRLC team
which she joined in June of 2011. Kate loves spending time with her husband and
twin boys at local playgrounds and libraries as well as biking and cross
country skiing.
