Summer Reading Achievement and Adventure Camp 2011
For Children with Reading-Spelling-Writing Challenges, Dyslexia,
Learning Disabilities and ADHD

Madison Reading and Learning Center and Camp Anokijig are teaming up to present a week long overnight summer camp. Camp will include three hours of academic instruction from MRLC teachers along with a variety of exciting activities at camp Anokijig.


Camp Includes
  • Informal assessment to place students in appropriate skill based groups
  • 3 hours of morning academics
  • Intensive, individualized small group and one-on-one instruction
  • Student to teacher ratios of 4:1 or less
  • Student portfolios with work samples to bring home
  • Progress report and parent consultation
  • Afternoon and evening Camp Anokijig activities

Academic Instruction

Reading and Spelling Skills:

  • Orton-Gillingham based instruction
  • Phonemic awareness and phonics
  • Spelling rules and generalizations

 

Reading Practice:

  • Fluency and comprehension strategies
  • Practice will be at instructional reading level

 

Sight Words: Improve sight word vocabulary using board games and movement activities

 

Written Expression: Learn basic and expanded sentence structure and paragraph organization

 

Student Portfolios: Students will keep a portfolio that will allow parents to see progress and get ideas for at home practice


MRLC Instructors:

Trained in and have experience working with evidence based reading programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Project Read, Lindamood-Bell, LiPPS, Direct Instruction and Wilson Reading


Experienced in teaching students with a variety of learning challenges and strengths as well as planning effective lessons that are engaging and fun
